Digital Design & Robotic Construction

Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

Welcome to the Robot Lab, home of the Digital Production Research Studio (DPRS) at the AUAS Faculty of Technology. The lab is a place where students, teachers and researchers innovate the design and fabrication of physical products and small constructions, while working on challenges from companies and governmental institutions within the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region. Many of these projects explore how we can contribute to Amsterdam’s transition to a fully circular economy, using our industrial robots and reclaimed material streams to produce circular solutions and business cases.

In July 2020, the Robot Lab will host its first Summer School, open to local/international students and young practitioners. For this event, the DPRG will work in a unique collaboration with UNstudio an international architectural design network with offices in Amsterdam, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Frankfurt, specializing in architecture, interior architecture, product design, urban development and infrastructural projects. The DPRS and UNstudio will work together with the Summer School participants at the Robot Lab, to design and build street furniture prototype(s) out of reclaimed wood, using 3d computational design tools and industrial robot arms. This street furniture will help launch UNstudio’s sustainable re-development initiative “the Green Mile” located in one of the main access roads of Amsterdam, the Stadhouderskade.

Are you interested in innovative designs and fabrication processes? Do you want to explore their potential and contribution for a more sustainable environment? Will you join us designing and building furniture prototypes to launch a much-needed greening project for the city of Amsterdam? Please enrol!
