Scholarships and grants

While studying away from home is a great experience, it can be costly. A scholarship or grant can help you cover (some of) these costs. Scholarships and grants are awarded to further your education and do not have to be repaid.

Difference between scholarships and grants

While both scholarships and grants help students financially, there are some differences. Generally speaking, scholarships are exclusively awarded for educational purposes, whereas grants can be given for all kinds of purposes. Also, scholarships are usually merit-based and grants are need-based. This means you can earn a scholarship through (academic) abilities. A grant can be received when you need the financial help for your studies. Please note though that these terms are sometimes used interchangeably and it is not always clear which is which. Therefore, make sure you reed the requirements before applying for a scholarship or grant.
