Scholarships and grants
While studying away from home is a great experience, it can be costly. A scholarship or grant can help you cover (some of) these costs. Scholarships and grants are awarded to further your education and do not have to be repaid.
Difference between scholarships and grants
While both scholarships and grants help students financially, there are some differences. Generally speaking, scholarships are exclusively awarded for educational purposes, whereas grants can be given for all kinds of purposes. Also, scholarships are usually merit-based and grants are need-based. This means you can earn a scholarship through (academic) abilities. A grant can be received when you need the financial help for your studies. Please note though that these terms are sometimes used interchangeably and it is not always clear which is which. Therefore, make sure you reed the requirements before applying for a scholarship or grant.
The following websites can help you finding a scholarship or grant:
|Federal Pell Grant |
|Students from the USA||Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.)|
|Students and teachers||Erasmus+ is open to many individuals and organizations, although eligibility varies from one action to another and from one country to another. Individuals can take part in many of the opportunities funded by Erasmus+, although most will have to do so through an organization taking part in the program. The eligibility of individuals and organizations depends on the country in which they are based. Visit the website to see if you are eligible.|
|Diversity Abroad |
|Students and recent graduates||The Diversity Abroad Network is the leading professional consortium of educational institutions, government agencies, for-profit and non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusive good practices that increase access, achieve equitable diversity and foster inclusive excellence in global education.|
|Students||Search for scholarships for students who wish to study abroad.|
|Students, graduates and teachers from the Netherlands||Find scholarships for studying, teaching or doing an internship abroad. Beursopener is an initiative of the Dutch organization for internationalization in education (Nuffic).|
