English for Academic Purposes Summer Course

Tilburg University

Are you entering an English-language Bachelor's or Master's program and want to quickly take your academic English skills up to an appropriate starting level? This three-week intensive course gives you the fast-paced, intensive boost you need to write and present in English in an academic context.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have:

  • Increased confidence in presenting and speaking in English.
  • Improved academic writing skills, including grammar and style.
  • Increased knowledge and active use of academic vocabulary.

During this three-week intensive course, you will be prepared for academic use of English (listening, reading, and most notably writing and speaking). Attention will be paid to grammatical accuracy and complexity. The writing part also deals with the construction of paragraphs, different text structures, proper referencing of sources, and argumentation. You have to write an individual paper (or research report) on a topic of your choice.

The target level of this course is B2+ for the lower group or C1 for the higher group.

For whom:
This course is for students with a level of B2- or higher. During the first lesson, a placement test will be done to determine your starting level. Based on this test, you will be divided into 2 groups at different levels.
